Truth is stranger than fiction. There are few places where this is more true than in the history of the world - where else can you find such organic and complex texture of people and events? Where else does everyone already have a basic understanding of the geography and timeline? What better background for a role-playing campaign. Of course, many non-fantasy games are already set in the "real world", but a pseudo-historical setting is still relatively rare in fantasy (with the notable exception of Ars Magica).

ADMC is an attempt to take an interesting snapshot of European history (which is a relatively easy thing to find) and distill it into a campaign setting that instantly feels familiar, has an infinite depth for those willing to do a little research, and yet caters for those interested in fantasy role-play with magic and monsters. ADMC has been under constant development since around 2001 and from a humble beginning of just some place to place a fairly standard D&D game it has evolved into a rich setting of its own.

As the name ADMC suggests, the political situation is loosely based on that of the first half of the 12th century (AD 1100-1150), although some people or events have been moved in from earlier or later periods to make things more interesting. For the same reason, the setting is not fixed to any specific year.
