Although Islam may seem unified to an outsider, there are sects who disagree on fundamental issues within the faith. The schism began on the disagreement on the successor of Mohammed, but has widened in the following 500 years.

The larger sect are the Sunnis, who are more peaceful and prone to leave politics to the secular rulers. The Shi'as are a slightly smaller sect, but more militant. They see their priests - imams - as having a direct link to God and thus speak the Will of God. The Shi'as are much more likely to declare holy war, Jihad, on spiritual enemies.

Islamic Magical Tradition

Closely related to Jewish and Christian magic, the Islamic tradition involves mostly prayer. Compass directions are used in the rituals, as well as kneeling and bowing.
