CultureFeudal

Page history last edited by Ville Makkonen 2 yrs ago

A feudal society. The population is ruled by a hierarchy of nobles and dwell in villages around castles or fortified manors. Aristocracy owns the land and the king rules his dominion (often nominally) through a complex network of vassals. Regular trade and courier networks keep the ruling class up to date on the events of their fiefs. Small-scale wars and skirmishes are common as the martially trained lords scheme against each other. Religion is organized much the same way as secular government and plays an integral part in the daily lives of the people.

Every nation in Europe and Middle East is feudal, and this type of society is dominant wherever the population density is larger - except in the largest cities. Most nobles and career soldiers (officers), as well as members of the clergy belong to this culture. The commoners in castles and towns are peasants or even more barbaric folk.

Power and prestige is determined by blood and alliances. Lower birth can be partly compensated by successful conquests and/or schemes. Entering the clergy is also a common way to bypass the limits of one's birth.
